Venice is the city of Romance

Venice is the renowned city of Romance, a city beautiful for its architecture and its priceless landscapes. Venice is the capital of the Veneto region in Italy, the city is well known as “La Dominante”, “Serenissima”, “Queen of the Adriatic”, “City of Masks”, “The Floating City”, “City of Bridges”, “City of Water”,  and “City of Canals”. The floating city

The city is divided in 117 small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic Sea in northeast Italy and has approximately 354 bridges that is why it had been called “The floating city” or “The city of bridges”, the New York Times has described it as “undoubtedly the most beautiful city built by man”. 

History of Venice

Venice is also wealthy in History, it was the major center of commerce during the ancient times especially in the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and it is well known for its several artistic movements, especially the Renascence and for having most of the most influenced artists from Gentile Bellini in the fifteen century to Francesco Guardi in late eighteenth going through Giovanni Bellini, Tiziano, Giorgione, Sebastiano del Piombo, Tintoretto, Veronés, Jacopo Bassano, etc.

Most of these artists were not born in this city but were attracted to the magnificent city. Venice has also played an important role in the history of symphonic and operatic music and it is the natal city of Antonio Vivaldi.

This sanctuary on a lagoon is the world’s only pedestrian city that is why you can find it more relaxing far away from the exhausting traffic and the only way to go faster are fast boats called the vaporetti (water buses) and water taxis.

The city is indubitably a touristic city and it has slightly more tourists than residents which is incredibly amazing. The Venice’s favorite attractions are:

  • Churches: Saint Mark’s Basilica, San Giovanni e Paolo, Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, Santa Maria dei Miracoli, San Giorgio Maggiore Basílica , Madonna dell’Orto’ Basilica, Santi Giovanni e Paolo’ Basilica.
  • Museums:  Correr Museum, Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), La Fenice Theater , Jewish Ghetto of Venice, The Jewish Museum, Ca’ Pesaro, Ca’ Rezzonico, Bell tower of St. Mark (Campanile di San Marco), Clock tower (Torre dell’Orologio), Scuola grande di San Rocco, Galleria dell’Accademia di Venezia, Glass Museum (Museo del Vetro),  Carlo Goldoni’s House (Casa di Carlo Goldoni),Lace Museum (Museo del Merletto), Burano, Museo Fortuny, Museum of Greek Icons, Natural History Museum , Naval History Museum (Museo Storico Navale),Palazzo Grassi , Scala Contarini del Bovolo and more.
