Turkey is a Eurasian country located in western Asia and in East Thrace in Southeastern Europe. Turkey is one of the independent Turkic states with a mixture of several elements that according to Turkish history belong to the Oguz Turkic, Anatolian, Ottoman and Western culture and traditions.

The official language in Turkey

In Turkey the mainly spoken language is Turkish which is the official language; although approximately just 70% -75% of the population speaks it while 18% of the population speaks the Kurdish and a few minorities speak other Zazaki languages.

Nowadays, Turkish is spoken as a native language by over 83 million people predominantly in Turkey and Northern Cyprus with smaller groups in Iraq, Greece, Bulgaria, the Republic of Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania and other parts of Eastern Europe. 

Istanbul Turkish

Turkish contains many dialects but the standard is Istanbul Turkish, which its roots dating back nearly 1,300 years in Central Asia, this language is characterized for its vowel harmony and extensive agglutination.

Religion in turkey

Turkey is a secular state with no official state religion, but Islam is the dominant religion with 96.1%, irreligious with 3.2%, Christianity with 0.6% including Oriental Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Orthodox and Protestants and 0.1 of other religions.   

As there are many Muslims in Turkey, they have some obligations of Islam such  as pray five times a day – at dawn, noon, afternoon, sunset, and evening and during the holy month of Ramazan all Muslims must fast from dawn to dusk.
