Portugal, a paradisiacal country

Portugal, a beautiful and paradisiacal country, lies between Spain and the Atlantic Ocean, sharing the Iberian Peninsula. According to the Portugal history, the name of the country derives from the roman name of Portus Cale, this region was populated by many civilizations Tartessos, Celts, Phoenicians and Carthaginians, Greeks, Romans, Germans (Swabians and Visigoths), Muslims, Jews  and  many others civilization which left  the culture,  the history, the language and the ethnicity of the actual country.

Portugal became an independent kingdom after the victory over the Muslims at the Battle of Ourique in 1139. During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, Portugal was an economic, social and cultural leader in the world and its empire comprised Brazil and East Indies. Today, the territory of Portugal occupies the Iberian Peninsula and the northern islands of Madeira and Azores.
