New York, the City where anything could happen and every visit is an unforgettable adventure, New York City as the most populous city in the United States is also referred to as “Big Apple”, “The City That Never Sleeps” due to its continuous bustling of traffic and people, even is called “Gotham”. New York City is home to hundreds of sights and things to see, the most important could be the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Brooklyn Bridge, United Nations Headquarters, Central Park, Broadway Theaters, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Lincoln Center, Grand Central Terminal, The Museum of Modern Art, and many others. New York City has the largest and most famous architectural landscape on earth, dominated by the Iconic Empire State Building.
Culture has a primordial order in New York, the City houses hundreds of museums, art galleries, theaters, and other cultural centers. New York also saw the birth of important art movements such as Abstract Expressionism and Hip-Hop music.
Beaches in New York
Long Island is the site for the beaches in New York; there are over hundred and fifty clean and white sand beaches here. In fact; some of the best public ones in the world are located here. To get to Long Island, take the Long Island RailRoad from Penn Station to Long Beach and from there go south to the beach itself.
A few Long Island beaches are open only to residents, but most are open to everyone. Most famous include the Hamptons, and Fire Island. The Hamptons, located on Eastern Long Island is the coolest destination for NY residents, Hamptons offers visitors an array of outdoor activities including boating, fishing, exclusive shopping and more. There are also many natural parks where visitors can enjoy the local fauna and flora.
Other popular beaches are Coney Island and Jones Beach. Quieter and also in Long Island is Long Beach.
New York Attractions
- Brooklyn Bridge is one the world’s first steel wire suspension bridges, it connects Lower Manhattan to Brooklyn, over the East River.
- The Empire State Building is a wonderful example of Art-Deco architecture; the observatories on the 86th and 102nd floors offer fantastic views of New York, the lower one is best.
- Rockefeller Center is a complex of 19 commercial buildings considered one of the outstanding architectural achievements in the world; it is located between 48th and 51st streets in the center of Midtown Manhattan.
- Times Square is one of the busiest intersections in Manhattan, which centers on 42nd Street and Broadway.
- From 1892 to 1954, more than 12 millions immigrants entered the United States from Ellis Island, located just off the southern tip of Manhattan.
- Located on 42nd Street and Park Avenue, it is the world’s largest and busiest train station. Grand Central Terminal, often called Grand Central Station or Grand Central, is a magnificent example of art meeting functionality.
When to come New York
There is no real best period to visit New York, there is constantly something going on at every time of year, no matter the season you will have a great time.
Most important sights such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the Statue of Liberty are open almost every day. Madison Square Garden hosts concerts and performances all year round while fans can always see their favorite sport at Shea Municipal Stadium or Yankee Stadium. The summer season
Summer is a great time to visit New York, many top cultural institutions (the Lincoln Center as an example) offer fun and free outdoor activities including film festivals and live music concerts. Visitors can obtain better views of popular spots such as Central Park, Coney Island, Statue of Liberty or even Niagara Falls. Summer is also time for annual celebrations, the U.S. Open is held in Queens, the New York City triathlon, the Big Apple BBQ Block Party, the Gay Pride Parade and the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks also are celebrated during this season.
The winter season
The winter season brings traditional celebrations, including the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Christmas Tree Lighting at Rockefeller Center, this is why many people feel that Christmas is the best time to visit New York City although shoppers may pack the city searching for the perfect gift. Fashion-lovers can benefit from the release of new collections at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. In the winter, the weather may be cold and snowy, especially in January and February although theater fans who want to see the biggest hits on Broadway often consider these months as the best time to visit New York
The fall season
During the fall season, visitors can enjoy cultural events such as the New York Film Festival and the Philharmonic and Metropolitan Opera concerts, other events held in this season include the New York City Marathon, the Columbus Day Parade, the NY Comedy Festival, the African-American Day Parade, the annual New York Chocolate Show, and the NYC Hispanic Parade among many others.
Spring season
During springtime, visitors can appreciate different flower shows such as the Cherry Blossom Festival, the Macy’s Flower Show and the Orchid Show. Different events such as St. Patrick’s Day, the Greek Independence Day, the Five Boro Bike Tour, Cuban Day, and the Ninth Avenue International Food Festival in Hell’s Kitchen among others are held during this season.
