Portuguese, the mother tongue of 250 million speakers

Portuguese is currently the mother tongue of 250 million speakers and it’s the official language of eight countries: Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique, East Timor, Sao Tome and Principe, and Guinea Bissau. There are many people who learn this beautiful language because these Portuguese- speaking countries offer several good reasons to embrace Portuguese as your second language. 

Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese

Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese, which is spoken in Portugal, are the two major types, but there are other types around the world. Portuguese has become the 6th most widely spoken language throughout the world, because it’s easy to learn for French or Spanish students and English speakers. Portuguese is the language with the largest number of speakers in Latin America because Brazil has approximately 183 million people, although this country is the only Portuguese-speaking nation in the Americas.

Portuguese is a Romance language, it has its roots in Latin. This language was spread by Portuguese conquerors through America, Asia and Africa. Today, language schools are the new conquerors of Portuguese learners, these educational institutions have a wide range of Portuguese courses and programs. This language is becoming more and more popular among language students, because these pupils want to learn more about Portuguese culture or they want to live or visit a Portuguese speaking country.
