Portuguese language is a romance language and the official language of many countries such as Portugal, Brazil, Mozambique, Angola, Cape Verde, Daman and Diu, East Timor, Guinea Bissau and Macau. It is also spoken in many other countries but not as an official language.  Portuguese like other languages such as Spanish, French, Italian and other languages came from Latin which was the language of the Roman Empire.

Over 250 million people have Portuguese as their mother tongue that is why this is the fifth most spoken language in the world. Although Portugal is the birthplace of Portuguese language, there are many more speakers in Brazil, that is why there are some differences between European Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese.
