As the first (although short lived) capital of Canada, the city of Kingston is probably the one that flourishes the most with history. It was here that the Fort Frontenac was settled in 1673 by the French explorer LaSalle; this represented the first permanent flood of people in Canada. Although the fur trading Fort Frontenac did not accomplish any success, the strategic location of the city in the Map of Canada (along The Rideau Canal entrance to Lake Ontario), made Kingston, Upper Canada’s primary military and economic center during several opportunities in history, hence, its historical relevance.

Kingston is located along the northwestern side of the province of Ontario, on the northern side of Lake Ontario, where the lake narrows into the St Lawrence River and forms the Rideau Canal. It’s the most prominent city on the northern shore of Lake Ontario. It’s renowned as North America’s Fresh-water Capital; it’s a major cruise ship destination and center of the Canadian Olympic Training Regatta (C.O.R.K.) every year.
