The Hellenic Republic

Greece is also called the Hellenic Republic; this fantastic country has an incredible culture and history full of customs, traditions, music, religion, language, cuisine and more.  

The Greek civilization 

The Greek civilization had been through for different periods: the Mycenaean Greece and the Classical Greece which were highly influenced by the Roman Empire and The Byzantine Empire. However their different occupiers such as the Ottoman Empire, Medieval Latin kingdoms, the Venetian Republic, Genoese Republic, and British Empire left to the Greek people much of their culture too.

The ancient Greeks

The ancient Greeks were very religious people. They believed in gods with human form, superhuman strength and eternal beauty. Most Greek literature recorded men’s interactions with various gods and goddesses, and many temples of Greece are in honor of Gods. 

Nowadays, 97% of the population are Christians Orthodox. The rest of the people are Muslims, Roman Catholics and Jewish. But most of the Greeks are very superstitious, they believe in religion and supernatural forces.

The language spoken in Greece

The language spoken in Greece is Greek with fifteen million speakers; Greek is an indo-European language that has a big influence on the Roman languages. In the country, most of the people also speak English and French, but also there are few minority groups that speak languages like: Arvanitika Ladino, Turkish, Slavic Macedonian, Vlach, Romani (a Gypsy language), Bulgarian, and Pomak.

Ancient Greek music

Greek cuisine

Greek cuisine is well- known because of being healthy and with a wide range of good quality products. The cuisine is very tasty and some of the culinary specialties: moussaka, stifado, Greek Salad, spanakopita, Souvlaki, skordalia, those dishes can be differently cooked or with different ingredients depending on the region some of those are similar to the Turkey food.

The architecture of greece

The architecture that we can find here has a Byzantine design, the most famous monuments are: The Temple of Olympian Zeus in Athens, Athens’ Acropolis towers, Hadrian’s Arch, Theater of Dionysus, etc.
