The Permute of Cuba

The real estate market didn’t exist in Cuba; instead of the real estate market, the Permute was the way of exchanging houses. The Permute works like this: the owner of a house that has: let say 3 rooms, can exchange only a house with a family that has a house of 3 rooms. The government policy of that time said that every house is from the government and if you want to exchange houses with other family you got to do a lot of paperwork. That much was the paperwork that almost every family that wanted an exchange desisted from it.

One example is a housekeeper that owned a house, because the original owners exiled themselves. The women stayed in the house for years, she was so happy to have that precious mansion, but once the government establishes the laws of not real estate market, the woman didn’t know what to do, soon the nice grass of the yard disappeared, the marble of the balcony were sold, she obtained a job in a school but even 4 salaries will not be enough to maintain such a big house.

The troubles to change a house

The citizens of Cuba were having troubles, because of the difficulties when one tried to change a house. The large paperwork could make anyone surrender before finishing the exchange.

An agreement between the social supporters said that Cuban people can sell properties now. That is a relief for the population of Cuba since there was a major problem of overpopulation. Families of 8 people had to live in a house that was built for 3 people, the case of the housekeeper that was living in a house falling apart all alone: “she heard the change in the news, she was holding an umbrella because of the drips on the ceiling, then she pull out a paper and wrote: House on Sell, I buy a house just for one far away from here”.

Cuban progress

Happily, the real estate market in Cuba is open now, so people can acquire better and wider houses. Not so the Latin America Real Estate Market, almost every country that has open market politics are in a boom, the real estate market is expanding and the Real estate Directory is being consulted more and more.

The progress of the countries in South America such as Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Peru can be compared in the real estate market with countries in Europe like England or Spain, for example the Properties in Leeds has lower sales ratings than the Lima Properties.

Maybe, Cuba will have real estate schools in a near future like in other countries around the world. Only over time we will see if it happens in this country.
