The location of Ajmer

The Indian History
According to the Indian History, Ajmer was annexed to the Delhi Slave dynasty in 1193, later it was given as a tribute to Rajput and in1556 was taken by Akbar. In 1770 it was annexed by the Marathas, after which the area was a continual Rajput-Maratha combat zone until it was ceded to the British in 1818. Ajmer, formerly called Ajmer-Merwara became a part of the state of Rajasthan in 1956. Travel to India.
The city is nowadays an important pilgrimage site for Muslims for the shrine or Dargah of the Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. It is also the base for visiting Pushkar (11 km), an ancient Hindu pilgrim town for the temple of Brahma. Brahma is the Hindu god of creation, he is often referred to as the progenitor or great grandsire of all human beings Ajmer is regarded as a center of education in Rajasthan.

Ajmer is picturesque ancient city with modern developments in the outskirts and an artificial lake, called Anasagar, adorned with a marble structure called Baradari. The city is very populated with around 2 584,913 inhabitants; there are many villages in Ajmer, 52 villages are held by Jats, 51 by Gujjars, 111 by RajputMers, 4 by other rajputs and also one village by Ahirs.
The principal attractions of the city
- Pushkar, an important tourist destination, is very famous for having The Brahma Temple and for the Pushkar Lake. It has an annual traditional festivity with colorfully dressed devotees, musicians, acrobats, dancers where you can eat all the traditional food.
- Dargah Sharif of Khwaja Mu’inuddin Chishti, a sacred place for Muslims. It is located at the foot of the Taraga?h hill with several white marble buildings, two courtyards and a mosque. Entry is free.
- Taraga?h Fort, the fort of Ajmer, seat of the Chauhan rulers, is claimed to be the first hill fort of Asia and the oldest hill forts of the world.
- Magazine is the city’s Museum that was once the residence of Prince Salim, son of the Emperor Akbar. It houses a collection of the Mughal and Rajput armour and sculpture.
- Anasagar Lake, an artificial lake constructed by Maharaja Anaji. It is the perfect place for relaxing; there are marble monuments which provide very beautiful views. Here you can rent a boat transport and enjoy of a marvelous afternoon.
