The Spanish cuisine
The highly renowned Spain Tapas are a very select and widely spread type of appetizers and snacks that come from the Spanish cuisine. They might be served cold or warm, and often found in select bars and restaurants. They have grown to be part of a sophisticated and entirely different variety of the cuisine in Spain, nowadays experts in tapas are able to merge and arrange different kinds of Tapas and serve them as a full meal. Such demonstrations are frequently called “bocas” in some parts of Central America.
The English grammar
Tapas or what in the English grammar would come to be “Covers” are used to stimulate conversation; the custom of accompanying a Tapa with a drink in a public bar, is known as “Tapeo” or “Ir de Tapas” which would be translated as “To go Taping” if such a custom would exist among English speaking countries, in Spain, on the other hand, is very common to go out to eat these appetizers and spent the weekends in “Tapeo,” which might also refer to “have a taste of” or “try” something. Due to these reasons Tapas have become part of the Spanish identity, so remember, whether you’ve landed in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, or you’re finding your way through the map of Ibiza, you must not miss-out on these outstanding appetizers.
The history of Spain
Although some suspect the Tapas have been part of the history of Spain since the middle age, it’s more likely that the tapas only came to be, in the same concept in which they are known today, after the shortage of food that followed the Spanish civil war. Even though it’s important to take notice that eating small portions of food has always been part of Spain history, and the etymology of the word takes as back as to the old habit in taverns of covering wine glasses with pieces of bread and ham to avoid embedding them with dust.
It’s important to take in consideration that Tapas have also received other names in history and that they have evolved into many shapes and forms since then, which is why, setting a timeline for these appetizers in history is complicated, to say the least, since its concept has changed and morphed in many occasions.
The implementation of bars
It’s possible, for example, that Tapas originated with the implementation of bars that commonly served them as courtesy to invite clients to stay and consume. There are more versions spread that the colloquial tails and myths will add, but the term has only been credited with its culinary concept since 1939.
