New York City, one of most influential cities in the world

New York City is one of most influential cities in the world, leader in finance, politics, fashion, communications, film, music, and culture. It possesses many of the most impressive museums, New York art galleries, theaters and concerts. (See also Art schools in New York)

It is located in the North-east part of the United States and in the Southeastern part of New York State, approximately between Washington, D.C. and Boston. The city’s total area is 468.9 square miles (1,214 km2) in which 304.8 square miles (789 km2) is land and 164.1 square miles (425 km2) of this is water.  

The 5 boroughs of New York

The city is divided into 5 boroughs: The Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. And each borough is split up into many different neighborhoods. Some New York neighborhoods could be just only a few blocks but each one has their own story and peculiarity. 

Manhattan

Manhattan is the most densely populated county in New York. It contains many of the most important headquarters of different corporations, universities, cultural attractions, and the famous Central Park. Manhattan is divided into Lower, Midtown, and Uptown regions. It is home to the Empire State Building, Times Square, Wall Street, Harlem, and neighborhoods like Greenwich Village and SoHo.

Brooklyn

Brooklyn is the most populated county, located in Southeastern Manhattan. It is known for its diverse ethnic population and for being very cultural. It offers a great number of music events, beaches and distinctive architectural heritage.  It is also famous for Coney Island, one of the earliest amusement parks of the country. 

Queens

Queens is the largest borough and the most ethnically diverse county in the United States with over 170 languages spoken. It is located to the east of Manhattan, across the East River. Formerly, it was a group of small towns and villages founded by the Dutch. It is currently a residential and middle class borough. Queens is the home to the New York Mets, professional baseball team, and annually hosts the U.S. Open tennis tournament.

The Bronx

The Bronx is located in the northern part of Manhattan, famous for being the birthplace of rap and hip hop culture and the home of the New York Yankees, Co-op City, the Bronx Zoo, the largest metropolitan zoo in the United States, and the New York Botanical Gardens. Staten Island. A large island in New York Harbor in southern Manhattan, it is connected to Brooklyn by the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and to Manhattan by way of the free Staten Island Ferry. The Staten Island Ferry is one of the most popular tourist attractions, because it provides views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island.
